SUMMER
ISLAND
|
There
is a new reception building, which includes a couples of shops, some
seating and a table tennis table. With white walls and a sandy
floor, it looks cool but with its low, tin roof it is, in fact, hot.
The bar is unchanged and its high, thatched roof ensures this large
area is cool and comfortable |
 |
| All
the rooms are completely rebuilt and are now of a good standard.
They are simply decorated and have a/c but no "extras",
such as minibar, telephone or hairdryer, but they are very clean,
bright and tidy. A second bed fits in easily enough. The bathrooms
are "gifili" style; that is, you step outside your own
enclosed area which is part shower and basin fittings and part small
garden. The fittings are new and solid |
 |
As you can see from
the top
most picture, the island is like a triangle and each
side has a very different beach. The base of the triangle, the north
side, has a fine, wide stretch of sand and the rooms here are the
best one to have. The east side, looking into the Atoll, is also
quiet good, but the west side has a sea wall running all the way
down (though there is a decent amount of sand between this and the
rooms). There has been a lot of interference with nature which has
an uncertain effect on beaches but certainly makes a place less
beautiful.
|
| Having said that, a large
number of flowers, shrubs and trees have been brought in and planted
around the island. Over time this will make the inside of the island
more and more attractive. At the moment the 92 rooms are rather
obvious (and rather obviously close to each other

Summer Island is not a beautiful
island but there is enough beach to go around and the rooms are
comfortable. The main reason to come here, though, must be to dive
and if you concentrate on that you won't be disappointed |
