FUN
ISLAND
|
Jetty the island is laid out before you. To the left and right the beaches
stretch away down the flank of this long, thin island, with the
rooms just behind. In front you'll see the group of smart, modern
looking "public buildings". And the comfortable,
open-sided main bar is just to the right, looking out over the
lagoon |

|
| The main restaurant is big, but the food has not
been compromised. Both the set meals ad buffets, which alternate,
are excellent. There is a variety and quality and even some
surprises. The good food surely contributes to the general
atmosphere of well being. |
|

|
The rooms are
all the same; clean, white and simply decorated. They each have air
conditioning, a mini bar and good lighting. The bathrooms are bright
and clean with very good fittings.
"Bodufinolhu", the original
name of the island means "big island" with few coconut
palms’. The soil here is shallow and sandy and although much has
been planted it all grows slowly and with difficulty
|
| The beaches though, are
generally very good. Anywhere on the island you can step out of your
room and lie down on soft, fine-grained sand. The lagoon is huge and
shallow on all sides. This makes it pleasant for swimming and
splashing about, but no good for snorkeling. The only place to do
this from is the end of the jetty. Here people congregate, amicably
passing the time of day sun tanning, chatting and snorkeling |

|

|
| Fun Island also has an
active and well-stocked water sports center. You can hire or have
lessons or the catamarans, windsurfers, canoes and water-skis, not
forgetting the banana boat. Within the same lagoon are two pretty,
uninhabited islands just far enough away to give your efforts a
rewarding goal. |
All
the usual fishing and island hopping excursions are organized during
the day, and there is usually something going on in the main bar in
the evening, from crab racing to live bands twice a week.
